Right Wing Attacks Escalate

OFA just wants to extend our thanks to the many supporters who have written us in support of the work we are doing after right wing extremists started a major campaign to attack us on all fronts. We want to also extend our thanks to the numerous donations that have come in in the last week in support of OFA and the cause of holding those 1% accountable. Thank you again for all of the generous support, and we promise to continue work to make sure that those who need to be held accountable, are held accountable for their actions.

Right-Wing Claims Obama’s New Campaign Slogan Reveals His Secret Communist And/Or Fascist Allegiances

One word; seven letters; so much nefarious hidden meaning. The Obama campaign’s new slogan, “Forward,” may seem like a typically oblique and anodyne piece of political branding — but thankfully, right-wing bloggers are here to reveal its true meaning, and predictably, it involves socialism and Hitler.

The president’s reelection campaign unveiled the slogan yesterday in lengthy new web video, and while the obvious subtext is that presumed GOP nominee Mitt Romney would take things backwards, there is so much more.

Breitbart.com’s Joel Pollak explained that the ‘Forward’ “borrows…from decades of communist iconography.” Pollak checks off a litany of scary historixcal world leaders whose lineage Obama is supposedly following, from Marx, Stalin, and Mao, to Benito Mussolini, to Thabo Mbeki, the former president of South Africa. “Communist leaders frequently used — and still use — the word ‘forward,’” he notes.

Can You Understand the Republican Brain?

Scientific American lauds author Chris Mooney "as one if the few journalists in the country who specialize in the now dangerous intersection of science and politics." Having interviewed Mooney about his first book, the highly praised, "The Republican War on Science," Truthout/BuzzFlash interviews Mooney about his latest release, "The Republican Brain: The Science of Why They Deny Science - and Reality." Truthout and BuzzFlash readers can directly obtain "The Republican Brain" and support uncompromised journalism by clicking here.

Mark Karlin: Progressives often say of Fox that they create facts to bolster their opinions. Is this true of the Republican mind set in general?

When (Right Wing) Bullies Can't Take a Punch

Drenched in contempt, Fox News contributor Sandy Rios appeared on Rupert Murdoch's cable channel last Friday to address the controversy surrounding the Susan G. Komen foundation's decision to cut longstanding ties with Planned Parenthood. In the process, Rios perfectly captured two of the conservative media's least redeeming, yet dominant, traits: perpetual victimization and an inability to lose with class.

When the Komen news first broke last week, conservative activists cheered it as a political and cultural victory. ("A remarkable turning point.") Indeed, activists had been applying political pressure on Komen for years to not support health care provider Planned Parenthood because it offers abortion. But then last Friday Komen backtracked. Facing a furious grassroots response from women, progressive activists, and Democratic members of congress, Komen shifted its stance with regards to Planned Parenthood.

FBI warns of threat from anti-government extremists

Anti-government extremists opposed to taxes and regulations pose a growing threat to local law enforcement officers in the United States, the FBI warned on Monday.

These extremists, sometimes known as "sovereign citizens," believe they can live outside any type of government authority, FBI agents said at a news conference.

The extremists may refuse to pay taxes, defy government environmental regulations and believe the United States went bankrupt by going off the gold standard.

The Rightwingoverse

In the Rightwingoverse, doubt must be cast upon facts, science, and basic reality, in order to sustain an otherwise unsustainable ideology.  Please feel free to toss in your own examples in comments -- maybe we can crowdsource an upcoming cartoon!
